Martin Ødegaard is still feeling the sting of Arsenal’s failure to win the Premier League title. The Norwegian midfielder was one of the standout performers for Arsenal throughout the season, and during the team launch, he admitted that the memories of their defeat to Manchester City are still raw.
At one point over the course of the season, Arsenal had established a healthy eight-point lead on City in the standings. Unfortunately, their late slump in form proved costly as City overtook them and went on to lift their third Premier League trophy in four years.
Ødegaard said that he tries his best to avoid seeing his friend’s celebrations due to how much it still hurts him. 
He said: “I try not to look at that stuff because it’s still painful. I try not to think about it.” This is understandable as it was an agonising loss for a promising side who had achieved so much throughout the season.
Despite this setback, Ødegaard remains determined to help Arsenal get back on track and reclaim their status as one of England’s elite teams. With next season’s kit already released – featuring an iconic red jersey emblazoned with white trim – it looks like Ødegaard has all the motivation he needs to achieve success with The Gunners in 2023/24. Adding more depth and quality in midfield will be key for Arsenal and they have already brought in Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid on loan for another season following his impressive form last year. However, they could do with adding another high calibre midfielder which could be something Ødegaard looks forward to doing himself if they add further reinforcements.
He has remained professional and focused through tough times before and now when things seem more promising than ever before, there is no reason why he can’t lead by example once again and inspire Arsenal onto greater heights next season. It will not be easy as there are numerous teams challenging for honours such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool but with some wise signings this summer and a never say die attitude from players like Ødegaard, anything might happen come May 2024!
